Helpful Tips
Download the Metrobus app. Buy day passes there. Track every bus in real time across St. John's routes. It's simple, fast, and saves coins.
Route 14 Metrobus runs often. It links downtown straight to the airport. The fare is cheaper than any taxi option. Count on it every hour.
Grab a Metrobus multi-ride card. The Avalon Mall customer service desk sells them. Pay as you go. No fumbling for change.
Stay near the harbour? Good choice. George Street is pedestrian-only. Five minutes on foot from most downtown bus stops. Walk, don't wait.
Common Scams to Avoid
Un-metered taxis at the arrivals curb quote a flat 'airport rate' that is often double the metered fare. Insist on using the meter or pre-book through the official airport kiosk.
Some private shuttle drivers claim the public Metrobus does not serve the airport, pushing travelers into higher-cost rides. The Route 14 Metrobus does connect to downtown with regular service.
Rogue luggage-cart attendants in the arrivals hall offer to 'help' with bags and then demand a tip far above the standard. Politely decline assistance unless you are prepared to tip modestly.
